Who is Deepika Singh Rajawat
Deepika Singh Rajawat is an Indian social activist, human right activist and a lawyer in Jammu and Kashmir High Court. She is the chairperson of Voice For Rights, an NGO which works on cases pertaining to human rights.
She became in prominence when she approached the family of rape victim 8-years old Asifa Bano in February 2018 and volunteered to fight for justice in the Kathua rape case. And while Deepika received backlash for her decisions, including the cancellation of her bar membership.
The Asifa rape or Kathua rape case refers to the abduction, rape, and murder of an 8-year-old girl, Asifa Bano, in Rasana village near Kathua in Jammu & Kashmir. When Deepika Singh Rajawat is fighting for justice for Ashifa, some right-wing peoples are threatening her to kill and rape. She also works for Child Rights and You (CRY), a Delhi based NGO, which is working towards the upliftment of underprivileged children across supported child welfare projects and restoring the children's basic rights.
